ChemBridge and EFMC Co-organize ASMC 2013 in Moscow, Russia

Moscow, Russia, May 6, 2013

The 2013 Advances in Synthetic and Medicinal Chemistry symposium (ASMC 2013) was held in Moscow, Russia, on May 5-8, 2013. The symposium was co-organized by ChemBridge Corporation and the European Federation for Medicinal Chemistry (EFMC). ASMC 2013 was the 5th event in a series of events which started with ASMC 2004 in Moscow, Russia, followed by two editions in St. Petersburg, Russia, (ASMC 2007, ASMC 2011) and one in Kiev, Ukraine, (ASMC 2009). ASMC 2013 was chaired by Prof. Peter Seeberger (Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces, Germany) and Dr Alan Palkowitz (Eli Lilly & Company, USA).

This series of events has attracted distinguished academic and industrial speakers, about 200 poster communications and 300 to 600 participants, representing more than 40 countries around the world. The topics covered during the ASMC 2013 symposium included:

  • New Synthetic Methodologies, Total Synthesis of Natural Products and Heterocyclic Chemistry
  • Medicinal Chemistry and Drug Discovery & Development

In addition to key lectures in synthetic and catalytic chemistry, as well as recent case studies in medicinal chemistry and drug discovery, the symposium extended the focus of topics beyond ‘small molecules’ to include ‘large molecules’, including carbohydrates, natural products, novel protein scaffolds, dendrimers, and genes; it attracted experts in synthetic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, flow chemistry, total synthesis, catalysis, drug discovery, molecular imaging, and chemical development.

The Scientific Program was composed of:

  • 24 invited plenary lectures, presented by leading scientists from academia and from the pharmaceutical and biotech industry from Europe, USA and former USSR countries
  • 2 EFMC Prize lectures
  • 10 short oral communications, selected from the submitted abstracts
  • a poster session

The symposium also included a commercial exhibition and an attractive cultural and sightseeing program around Moscow.
